MM Team Summits Mt. Dickey
We got a brief mesÂsage from Dave Ahrens this mornÂing from the AlasÂka Range. He and the May 2 Ruth Gorge ExpeÂdiÂtion team sumÂmitÂed Mt DickÂey via the West Face yesÂterÂday! ConÂgrats to them! With DavÂe’s typÂiÂcal underÂstateÂment and humilÂiÂty, he said it was one of his top three “walÂlow fests” ever (ie: deep snow and trailÂbreakÂing). ComÂing from someÂone who has guidÂed the comÂplete Denali TraÂverse and DenalÂi’s West ButÂtress in the same seaÂson (a first?), this is probÂaÂbly sayÂing a lot. We wonÂder what the top “walÂlow fest” was?
VetÂerÂan guide and office staff extraÂorÂdiÂnaire, Mark Ryman, and new MM guide Aaron ClifÂford flew into the Alaskan Range yesÂterÂday as well. Their goal is the ultra clasÂsic SW Ridge of Peak 11,300. Mark’s aerÂiÂal phoÂtos sent via iPhone conÂfirmed the snowy conÂdiÂtions but clearÂing weathÂer. HopeÂfulÂly we’ll get an update from them latÂer in the week. The timÂing of this trip is perÂfect for our next AK trip, as MM guide Dylan TayÂlor is on deck to attempt 11,300 with the strong team of Mark JohnÂcox and Peter Webb on May 17th. Dylan and Mark have climbed the MoosÂes Tooth togethÂer, and Peter Webb has been on a numÂber of MM trips in the North CasÂcades — ForÂbidÂden Peak, Mt BakÂer — as well as attemptÂed Alaska’s remote Mt Fairweather.
Stay tuned for notes from the AlasÂka Range!
