Ladder in khumbu icefall

Khumbu Icefall!

We’re happy to report that it’s been a wonderful spring for all the Mountain Madness teams on the Everest Base Camp Trek, led by one of our client’s favorite guides Deana Zabaldo. Our last group just finished the Khumbu Icefall extention, led by world-class mountaineer Pemba Sherpa.

Pemba reported that the Khumbu Icefall route was in better condition than he’s seen it in previous years, with fewer and shorter ladders. The group practiced crossing and climbing ladders, climbing fixed ropes, and top-roped ice climbing. The team made it above Camp 2.

Deana is off on vacation now, but gearing up for our fall treks to base camp and also the Mountain Madness trip to Bhutan that is now confirmed for October!

Interested in our Everest Base Camp Trek? It’s not to late to join our fall trip and spring trips are already confirmed. See 2010 and 2011 dates here. And our dates are up for the Khumbu Icefall trip and Island Peak Expeditions, which are also an extension from the base camp trek.

All Khumbu Icefall photos below are from Pemba.
