K2 rescuer Pemba Gyalje Sherpa to lead MM Island Peak and Khumbu Icefall extension to Camp 2 on Everest
We are pleased to have Pemba join us again in Nepal for our climbs and Everest Base Camp Treks in the Everest region. In early April he will be leading our Island Peak Expediton (view video clip) followed by the Khumbu Icefall Extenstion to Camp 2.
Pemba has been guiding on the world’s tallest mountains for over fifteen years, and has seen of the summits of Ama Dablam, Everest, Cho-Oyu, and K2. He is one of the few guides from Nepal to pursue guide certification with the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association, which under the supervision under International Federation of Mountain Guide Association (IFMGA) represents the internationally recognized standard for professional mountain guides.
In addition to his extensive high-altitude climbing experience, Pemba has participated in many successful search and rescue missions around the world. He was the recipient of the American Alpine Club’s David A. Sowles Memorial Award in 2009, and was recently named the Best Adventurer of the Year 2008 by the National Geographic Adventure Society for his heroism as part of rescue mission on K2.
