Aconcagua Trip #3 Underway

Ossy called in from base camp on the Pol­ish Tra­verse route for an update. Join­ing him on the climb are John­son and the father and son team of Robert and James. Right now they are all set­tled in to their tents relax­ing after a fine din­ner of roast­ed chick­en with rice, fol­lowed by peach­es with dulce de leche. There was some talk about some Argen­tinean wine being served, but Ossy wise­ly did not elab­o­rate about how much- like­ly just a splash for taste though as alco­hol and high alti­tude do not mix so well.…, It will just have to wait.

Plen­ty of work ahead of the team any­way , which begins again in earnest the day after tom­mor­row with a car­ry to Camp 1. In the mean­time, the team will rest, pre­pare food, and check gear on Sat­ur­day. The weath­er is cloudy with some snow, per­fect con­di­tions to chill out and read a book. Every­body says hi and is doing well. Ossy is excit­ed with the group that he says is strong and ready for the moun­tain and the work to be done above base.

Once above base camp the Pol­ish Tra­verse route trav­els the glac­i­er and involves three more camps before reach­ing the sum­mit. After their ascent they have the option to descend into the Hor­cones Val­ley and return to the start­ing point at the small town of Puen­ta del Inca by a dif­fer­ent route, thus com­plet­ing a cir­cum­nav­i­ga­tion of the mountain.
