Smith Rock climbing with Mountain Madness course and ascents

Smith Rock

Let Mountain Madness guides take you from sage to sky

Climbers can cut their teeth on easy to moderate multi-pitch, and single-pitch climbs, or try some of the harder sport climbing and crack routes Smith State Park in Oregon has to offer. There is literally a lifetime worth of climbing at Smith! Smith Rock State Park has climbs appropriate for all levels of climber, all of which are easily accessed via a short walk from the campground, or the nearby towns of Bend, Redmond, or Terrebonne. Easy access, great weather, hundreds of routes to chose from, and interesting, solid rock make this a world calss destination for climbers.

Smith Rock owes its unique shape, and amazing climbing to a convergence of geological phenomena. The rugged Basalt, and Tuff formations are the result of deposition from a series of volcanic eruptions that were subsequently cut into their present shapes by the Crooked River that still flows through Smith Rock State Park today. This is all to say that the eons have left Smith Rock with a plethora of nubs, cracks, huecos, and edges that beckon to be climbed.
