Get Your Backcountry Ski Stoke Going — Baker Pow Available

Winter Is Here!

For those of you who have been wondering when the ski season would truly begin. Let me be the first to tell you it’s here! MM Guide Dallas Glass just sent in a few picks from a downright blissful 20” powder day in the Mt Baker Backcountry. If you’ve ever dreamed of leaving the crowds and lift lines behind or want to start taking your backcountry travels to a new level; join Mountain Madness this winter for Guided Backcountry Skiing or an AIARE Avalanche Education Course. Read below for more on Dallas’s ski tour near Mt Baker.

Dallas’ avalanche dog Belle coming up for some air. She loves nothing more than going skiing!

After a superb day with some friends at the Mt Baker ski area, my girlfriend and I decided to spend the morning touring the Baker BC. We wanted a little exercise and I wanted to check out some tour plans I’d put together for upcoming courses this winter. While downing a quick breakfast and some coffee I checked some local snow and weather data sites and was pleased to see nearly 20” of fresh snow had fallen in the past 24hrs. With a solid base already in place, we eagerly headed to the trailhead for what we knew would be an excellent powder day. The weather data was spot-on; a nice fluffy 20” awaited us as I broke trail up for the first of several runs. My avalanche dog Belle yelped with excitement as we ripped skins. We found countless untracked lines and knee deep snow everywhere we turned. After several laps and now weary legs we paused on the ridge and sipped some hot coffee before making one last run back to my truck. Winter is definitely here! ”
