2‑Day Ascents of Mount Baker or Mount Shuksan
The new age of climbing is all about going “Fast and Light”. These ascents will allow participants to push their cardio by attempting a classic Cascade peak in one big push. You leave the cooking gear, sleeping bags, and take only the essentials as you prepare to truly go “Fast and Light”.
Our route on Mount Baker, (10,781 ft / 3286 m), ascends the Easton Glacier with challenging route finding through icefalls, seracs, and large crevasses. On Mount Shuksan, (9,127 ft / 2782 m), the Sulphide Glacier route offers good glacier travel and an exhilarating final climb up steep mixed snow and low 5th class rock to the summit pyramid.

- A lot of elevation gain! Gain for Shuksan will be 6,627 feet and 7,581 ft for Mount Baker in 1 day.
- Steep snow to 40 degrees or Low 5th class rock on the summit pyramid on Mt Shuksan.

- $400 deposit at time of registration, which includes a $200 non-refundable registration fee

Policies
Cancellation / Refund Policy
- MMI strongly recommends trip cancellation/interruption and evacuation insurance for all trips. Our insurance partner, Ripcord, offers comprehensive travel insurance including trip cancellation, as well as rescue/evacuation policies and can assist in answering any questions. In addition, Participant is expected to have sufficient medical insurance as prescribed by their country of origin. Participant understands that MMI does not include any type of insurance with the cost of the trip.
- If you decide to cancel your trip or change your itinerary, MMI must be notified in writing. Your trip will be cancelled from the date written notice is received. If proper written cancellation notice is not received, amounts paid and reservations made will be forfeited.
- Non-refundable fees may apply for certain trips in order to secure permits and other services. MMI must strictly adhere to cancellation policies outside MMI’s control.
- Due to the personalized service we offer on our trips, MMI reserves the right to waive any fees. We will attempt to accommodate changes and cancellations, waiving certain fees when feasible.
- Circumstances outside the control of MMI and its partners, may require amended cancellation/refund policies. Such circumstances may include, but are not limited to COVID-19, natural disasters, wildfires, terrorism and so forth.
Domestic Trips/Courses:
- Full refund, less the non-refundable registration fee, will be provided 91 days or more before the departure date
- No refunds will be provided 90 days or less before the departure date
Trip Insurance
We strongly recommend the purchase of travel cancellation insurance to protect you from the unexpected. You aren’t likely to think of it now, but people do get ill, break a bone, have a family emergency or get assigned to a last-minute business trip. If you are in remote areas, please note that emergency rescue & evacuation can be very expensive.
We also strongly urge you to consider rescue and evacuation insurance if your own policy does not provide the coverage needed. Services available may include, but are not limited to, helicopter evacuation, medical care, etc.
If you choose not to purchase insurance, you assume full responsibility for any expenses incurred in the event of a medical emergency and/or evacuation, as well as for trip cancellation, interruption, lost luggage, etc. We are not the experts and therefore ask that you please consult our travel insurance partner directly with any specific questions.

Itinerary
Mount Baker Day by Day

Day 1
The day starts at 12:00 pm when you will meet your guide for a quick gear check. We then drive from Seattle to the trailhead at Schreiber’s Meadow (3,200 ft / 975 m) on the south side of Mt Baker picking up any extra supplies along the way. You will set out on the trail at approximately 10 pm. At about 5,000 feet / 15242 meters you will strap on your crampons and pull out your ice axe to begin the glacier climb. You may decide to take a short rest here before continuing with the climb.

Day 2
Your climb continues into the evening to the summit via the Easton Glacier. Depending on conditions and the pace of the group, it takes from 5 to 7 hours to reach the top. Gorgeous views of the North Cascades reward you as you stand on the summit of the North Cascades’ highest volcano. Descend to vehicle and head back to Seattle. You can expect to be back in Seattle around 7 – 9 pm.

Mount Shuksan Day by Day

Day 1
The day starts at 12:00 pm when you will meet your guide for a quick gear check. We then drive from Seattle to the Shannon Ridge trailhead at (2,500 ft / 762 m) picking up any extra supplies along the way. At about 5,400 feet / 1646 meters at the base of the Sulphide glacier you will strap on you crampons and pull out your ice axe to begin the glacier climb. You may decide to take a short rest here before continue with the climb.

Day 2
Your climb continues into the evening to the summit via the Sulphide Glacier. Several hours of cramponing up the gentle Sulphide Glacier bring us to a crevassed zone at the base of the 700-foot / 213-meter summit pyramid. We’ll navigate this and then start belayed and pitched climbing up the steep central gully. Depending on the season and time of year, this is usually a nice mixture of snow climbing, easy rock, and ledges. Shuksan’s summit is classically small! From here you will have views of the complex glaciers beneath us as well as the surrounding peaks of the North Cascades. We’ll then descend the climbing route via a series of lowers, rappels and down climbing. Once back on the glacier, descend 5,927 feet / 1807 meters to the trailhead. You can expect to be back in Seattle around 7 – 9 pm.

Climbers should have basic snow and ice-climbing skills and should be comfortable with glacier travel, which includes moving in a rope team, self arrest, and basic crevasse rescue. Basic knowledge and experience would be required for objectives with some rock climbing.
