Speedy and Successful Summit of Elbrus
The third MounÂtain MadÂness Elbrus trip for 2016 went off withÂout a hitch!
I’d like to thank the whole team for an incredÂiÂble expeÂdiÂtion — I’m psyÂched to have made so many new friends!
Some of the highÂlights from this trip include two beauÂtiÂful acclimaÂtiÂzaÂtion hikes in the Elbrus region, a perÂfect sumÂmit day, and of course the wonÂderÂful accomÂmoÂdaÂtion at the Hotel Povorot in Cheget.
When we first arrived in Cheget the weathÂer was conÂsisÂtentÂly beauÂtiÂful in the mornÂing, with clear skies and low winds. This made for excepÂtionÂal conÂdiÂtions to begin our acclimaÂtiÂzaÂtion proÂgram with hikes up to the Cheget Ski Area and the obserÂvaÂtion towÂer overÂlookÂing TerÂskol. The views of the mounÂtain were stunÂning. As crysÂtal clear skies met us each mornÂing, as we began the crisp walks through the forest.

Once we moved onto the mounÂtain, we checked the foreÂcast and saw clear weathÂer for two days. We did one more sunÂny acclimaÂtiÂzaÂtion hike up to about 4700m to preÂpare for our final sumÂmit push. We awoke sumÂmit mornÂing to a thin cloud layÂer that we were able to punch through, and burst out into the perÂfect starÂry night with the sumÂmit loomÂing above us. We began our walk at 5000m and were standÂing on the top a mere four hours latÂer. The team’s prepaÂraÂtions and physÂiÂcal fitÂness were very apparÂent, seeÂing as we were able to ascend with such speed and effiÂcienÂcy. Props to you guys!

We were able to descend to 5000m and hitch a ride back to the barÂrels, and then back to the hotel latÂer that day. We celÂeÂbratÂed in the wonÂderÂful Hotel Povorot with a deliÂcious dinÂner, music and dancÂing. Thanks again to the team for a great expeÂdiÂtion, I hope to see all of you on MadÂness trips in the future!
Our vicÂtoÂriÂous team!
