Bolivia’s Trans Andean Trek or Climb
The Trans Andean Trek or Climb is one among several of our opportune itineraries that allow our trekkers to explore beautiful mountain ranges with the comfort of porters and pack animals, and offer an optional summit climb for those who want a little extra challenge. This year we had trekkers join us in Bolivia, Ecuador and Peru for our “Trek or Climb” programs, some of whom started out the trip as trekkers and came home as mountaineers!
Stay tuned for next year’s addition to the Trans-Andean trip- KAYAKING in Lake Titicaca!

Dawn Wilkinson, a trekker on our Trans Andean Trek or Climb, shared her photos with us from her experience in Bolivia. She was introduced to the basic skills of glacier travel on this awesome Trek or Climb, a great start to prepare her for an international glacier mountaineering course!

The team met in La Paz, Bolivia where they toured the city, explored the arcaehological site of an ancient Tiwanakan city, relaxed on the shores of Lake Titicaca in the town of Copacabana, and hiked the beautiful Isla del Sol for the first 3 days with a wonderful local guide, Grace.

After meeting with the porters and pack animals, the team was off into the heart of the Cordillera Real. They trekked past the beautiful Lago Chiar Khota, an alpine lake surrounded by the spectacular amphitheater of Andean peaks, and set up camp at the Condoriri Base Camp. The team, feeling strong and energized, decided to summit Pico Austria the next day!

As all three clients were feeling strong and ambitious on this trip, they decided to attempt a summit climb of Charkini. Although the team had to turn around before reaching the summit, they were excited to have learned some mountaineering skills and to have made the attempt.
