Vinson 2011-entry 2

MM office checked mes­sages this morn­ing and is hap­py to report that the team made it all the way to base camp where they were met by MM guide Jacob Schmitz who greet­ed them with a ther­mos of fresh­ly brewed hot cof­feee. Mark reports per­fect weath­er, not a breathe of wind, and a plane stuck at base camp with mechan­i­cal prob­lems; so they feel for­tu­nate to have made it in! 

Every­body is blown away by the scenery and how unique this place. For now they are set­tling in to base camp and get­ting ready to move up the moun­tain to low camp below the fixed lines. After a meet­ing with oth­er guide ser­vices to dis­cuss pro­ce­dures and poli­cies on the moun­tain our team will hook-up their sleds and start mov­ing up the mountain.

This year’s team minus two. Full team with guides is eight.

We had our full brief­ing this morn­ing about the trip with the com­pa­ny that han­dles all logis­tics for expe­di­tions going to the­moun­tain. There will be about 40 climbers total head­ing in on the Ilyushin if the weath­er is fly­able tomor­row. Our duf­fels have all been weighed and tak­en away. Noth­ing left to do but wake up and dress for the ice and hope we fly. The wind is ham­mer­ing Pun­ta Are­nas today and it takes a con­cen­trat­ed effort to stay on your feet just walk­ing down the side­walk. So, we’ll see.
